If the hat fits

This hat I wear upon my head
is not the one I wear in bed
it’s the hat I wear when I’m in church
and when I pray the feathers lurch
and sway with every passing breeze
then bob and wiggle when I sneeze.

But my best hat  I’ll let you know
is the one I wear when with my beau
I never knew a hat like this
could ever hide my maiden’s kiss
but down the alley by the stile
it hid my blush and sweet girl smile
this broad rimmed bonnet with it’s flowers
has shielded happy kissing hours

My hats have kept my secrets well
they could not speak so could not tell
so here I sit in bridal gown
my golden curls around a crown
and now at last I’m safely wed
it’s another hat I’ll wear when I’m in bed.
